Why All the Crying in the Surf World Lately?

crying-baby.jpg

Seems a lot of crying going on in the surf world lately: ASP judges, ASP commentators, ASP top 5 vs. young Brazzos, Parko vs. whoever, Anastasia's Twerking, Billabong going down under, the future of pro surfing, the new tour, etc. etc. etc. Since when did everyone start taking things so serious??

Let's take a look at what everyone's been whining about lately…

ASP Judging
Big freakin' deal! One surfer is overscored, one surfer is underscored and the whole world goes up in smoke? Everyone thinks they could be a better Tour judge, when in reality, they're just jealous that these ASP Tour judges have pretty much the most bitchin job on the planet while the rest of us, well, we'll just leave it at that.
Is it worth crying about? NO.

Billabong and other companies going down!
Really? How dare anyone heckle a surf company like the Bong! How could anyone rip on a company that's brought us so many legendary surf movies, contests and sponsored athletes? Billabong should not be the butt of a joke, nor should anyone be crying about it. It's business. Business will go up, business will go down, and like the ASP Tour over the past 30 years, business will change hands. Get over it. Billabong will be just fine.
Is it worth crying about? NO.

ASP Commentators
Everyone is complaining about the commentating. Snake and Dooma getting axed from the mic? Yeah, it sucks but it's not worth crying over, and the only ones who should be crying about it should be Snake and Dooma because they both lost pretty sick gigs and were having a helluva good time doing it. At the end of the day it's not that big of a deal. Jake and Dooma will be okay.
Is it worth crying about? NO.

Anastasia's Twerking and Alleged Sexism in the Sport
First a high ranking surf company TM gets the axe for making a negative comment about how the old female pro surfers were, and others are getting slammed for talking about how sexy the new ones are. No one wins!! The only thing that's going to fix women's surfing are the companies who can step up and support it financially. Crying about it is only going to make it worse for the girls on tour right now. In fact, they'd probably like everyone to just shut up about it all so they can focus on the real task at hand: Getting paid to go surfing!
Is it worth crying about? NO.

Parko vs. Anyone and the ASP Top 5 vs. all the Young Brazzos
First off, you can't deny Parko's surfing or anyone in the Top 5 … Top 32 for that matter. These guys are killing it despite the amount of money each one takes home at the end of the year. But there is a changing of the guard, and although it might not happen this year like a lot of you would like, it's coming really soon. So just hang in there and quit your bitching!
Is it worth crying about? NO.

The New 2014 ASP Tour, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah
Look, everyone wants to be Larry King and report the latest dirt, or whatever dirt they can dig up, but the truth is the ASP is doing fine, and it's doing a great job with the ASP Dream Tour. Today's world tour surfers are getting paid amazing amounts of money to compete on the World Tour. People are crying that Slater's running the tour, etc, etc… And their point? Big deal! Let Slater run the Tour, Lord know he knows more about it than those crying about it!
Is it worth crying about? NO.

Yep. Too much crying going on all the time. Every week it's some other media outlet writing about it, complaining about it, bringing the whole thing up. Truth is no one cares. We all surf because we like being in the ocean and we like catching waves. We all watch the ASP events because we like seeing people surf better than us.

Come to think of it … now we're crying, too! We're crying about all the crying and that sucks. We just want to surf and watch the next webcast.—-SS
Is it worth crying about? YES.
