WEST OZ

By Nate Yeomans. Next time you hear a pro surfer complain in the lineup, would you slap him for me? Wait, maybe that's a bit too strong. I don't want charges being pressed for assault. But
seriously, pro surfers really do "live the dream." This last trip to Western Australia was one of those trips. Not trying to rub salt in any overworked 8-5 wounds, but surfing for a living is pretty damn plush. West Australia Is an oasis to the surfing world; beautiful Indian Ocean swells slam this coast with raw, powerful energy. The hills are covered with fresh grapes ready to be picked for the next bottle of white wine that will accompany your freshly caught seafood entree. Life is good to surfers over there (disregarding the shark factor). The trip was awesome and we took advantage of the freedom of not having to put on a jersey. As on any good surf trip, there were plenty of classic moments besides the good waves. On Day 6, the water tanks ran out of water. This meant 10 guys with no working toilets. The mornings were spent trying to beat the other cars in our caravan to the nearest bathroom, where destruction would take place. On Day 8, waves are flat, time to indulge in the abundance of world-class wineries in the area. At winery 5 of the day, The Cheeky Monkey brewery, the owner recognizes Cory Lopez and styles us out with some of his personal favorite wines. He ended up inviting us to his fiancee's birthday party later that night; I remember getting there but still have no idea how we got home. Thank you, O'Neill for making this trip happen, The Crew, waves and adventure were insane and Long Live Camp Marmaduke.
