Simpo Re-Qualifies for WSL ... Barely

It's hard to believe, but ASP World Tour vet Brett Simpson was actually staring down the barrel - not of a wave - but of a post world tour life. A life not on tour. After having a ho-hum year on the WCT marked by more second round losses than anything, there was real potential that the 2005 ASP Rookie of the Year would be falling off tour and landing on a job in the surf industry. But then came Hawaii. Brett's always been a charger, and the Hawaiian power always seems to do him right. And in order to requalify for next year's WSL, he would have to come up big in the Reef Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa. And he did it. He made the semifinals, jumped from 16th on the WQS ratings to 10th, securing his spot on next year's world tour. That was a close one, no doubt, and we're sure Brett's going to have the best year of his life on tour next year. It's 2015 or never. Good work, Brett. Stoked!
