Encinitas has always been a hot bed of surfing talent, but this is getting nuts. Two Encinitas locals made the Opens Mens final of the 2013 NSSA National Championships presented by Hurley today, including 14-year-old Jake Marshall and 17-year-old Taylor Clark.
While the Moniz boys, Seth and Josh, set the bar for the majority of the event, Taylor Clark owned the final, sticking one air and punting even higher the next for a combined heat score of 14.54 (including an 8.27) to over take the Hawaiian brothers Seth and Josh Moniz, and young Jake Marshall … who surfed up a division and was just happy to be there.
Taylor's win came to no surprise. He recently won the VQS World Championships in Newport and has been in more finals in the past few years than we care to mention here. It's safe to say the future of surfing is alive and well not just in Encinitas but in the USA in general.
