Costa Rican "Slater" wins Hurley Pro Video Trials

It all started August 4 with 16 surfers competing in Hurley's online voting event to determine who will get the wildcard into this year's Hurley Pro at Lowers. The list of 16 surfers was comprised of some of the best surfers in the world currently not on Tour: Dusty Payne, Caio Ibelli, Albee Layer, Messias Felix, Jay Davies, Stuart Kennedy, Yago Dora, Ian Gentil, Jack Freestone, Cam Richards, Torrey Meister, Ian Crane, Alex Chacon, Pat Gudauskas, Matt Banting and the Kelly Slater of Costa Rica, Carlos Munoz.

By the time the second round of voting was underway, it was clear that Carlos (with almost double the amount of votes of his nearest competitor) was going to be the man to beat. And he was. He blew through the quarters with over 15,000 votes, and owned the semifinals with four times as many votes as his nearest competitor. He ended up in the finals with Dusty Payne but blew doors on him, like he did the rest of the field, with nearly 15,000 votes to Dusty's 3,200.

And now he's in the Hurley Pro at Lowers. Stoked for Carlos, and totally amped for the Costa Rican surfing community. Can't wait to see him blow up at Lowers this September!
