JJF Goes Next Level in Round 4 of Hurley Pro

Dateline, Lower Trestles. These guys are good. Real good. The ASP/WCT Hurley Pro Wildcards have been dismissed, and more than half the surfers in the back end of the ASP Top 32 have been sent home, left thinking more about the Quiksilver Pro in France the end of this month than the perfect surf we have right now at Trestles.

It's no surprise the ASP's top ranked surfers are still in the event, including the current world number 1 Gabriel Medina who became the second surfer in the event to advance to the quarterfinals joining the reigning world champ Mick Fanning who lit up like lightning in the first heat of Round 4.

In the third heat of Round 4, JJF went ballistic, putting Kelly Slater and Adriano DeSouza in combo land after sticking everything he tried enroute to pocket 9s (including a 9.93 and a 9.80). To say JJF is in the quarters is an understatement: He is the quarters and at this point in the contest, the guy to beat.

Up now is the last heat of Round 4, with 2012 World Champ Joel Parkinson up against Owen Wright and reigning event champion Taj Burrow.

At this point, here's what we're looking at: There's one American left in the field. One Hawaiian. One Tahitian and the rest is no surprise: Australians and Brazilians. Still a lot of surfing left though, and with the 2014 ASP World Title Race in full effect, none of these guys will be going down easy.
