Red Bull and GoPro sponsorships used to be the biggest endorsements an athlete could have. But not no more. Big wave surfer Ian Walsh has just signed a deal with Hewlett Packard, or HP as it’s affectionately known in the tech world. While we’re not sure what kind of cash Ian is banking from HP, you know it’s gotta be a ton. HP spent over $400 million in advertising last year, and while they’ve never spent a lot of money on extreme sports, we’re sure they’re not chimping him. HP will feature Ian in a campaign introducing ‘Ghost Wave,” a short film by Taylor Steele that follows Walsh surfing never before ridden surf around the world while using the HP x360 Pavilion laptop computer to help him get there. Sounds pretty epic. And until we find out how much Ian is making, we’ll go out on a limb and say that Ian Walsh might be the highest paid surfer in the world.
