Good Surf FINALLY Hits the OC!

winter-swells.jpg

It's been a long couple months for surfers in the county formerly dominated by Citrus Groves. Seems like the last really good swell to hit the area was Hurricane Simon the first week of October. With the exception of a couple smaller to medium size west swells, it hasn't been all that epic. But then it happened. Storms tracking off the Aleutians creeped into our window from 185 degrees and the madness began. The first real winter west swell of the year started hitting OC beaches on Tuesday, December 9 and by sunrise today the swell was in full effect. Bombs were dropping and continue to drop at just about every break in Orange County. With the abundance of surf, however, comes the abundance of surfers. Yep, the surf was packed, but for good reason! There just hasn't been any good surf for what seems like the longest time. And this ain't it! There's more swell on tap for the end of this week and a Southern Hemi swell hitting our area early next week. Although it might not be epic enough to erase those Hurricane Memories from last summer, it might be enough to get us through the Holidays. Only time will tell. (And wind patterns. You never know what might happen around here.)—-Skip Snead 12/10/14
